Still Life: New Life at New Wave Coffee July 2 - 31, 2010
Part of the 2010 Milwaukee Ave Arts Festival

Definitions of artistic styles have come a long way in the history of art. When you hear Still Life, what comes to mind? A vase of flowers or a bowl of fruit? How about an animal skull or piles of dead fish? All have been done by some of the world's most well-known artists. In this exhibition, we hope to blur the lines of the traditional still life by means of subject matter, media, and style.

Call for Artists: Still Life: New Life at New Wave Coffee July 1 - 31, 2010

CALL FOR ARTISTS:
Definitions of artistic styles have come a long way in the history of art. When you hear Still Life, what comes to mind? A vase of flowers or a bowl of fruit? How about an animal skull or piles of dead fish? All have been done by some of the world’s most well-known artists. In this exhibition, we hope to blur the lines of the traditional still life by means of subject matter, media, and style. Accepted works must be two-dimensional original works of art (limited edition prints will be considered). Works cannot exceed 36" x 36" including the frame (if framed).

Get your holiday shopping done while supporting local artists at the 2nd Annual Holiday Art Sale and Silent Auction presented by N.A.I.L.S. (Neighborhood Artists in Logan Square). This two-day art event runs from December 5th through the 6th in a converted vacant store front at 2314 N. Milwaukee, near the corner of Milwaukee and California Avenues in Chicago. Watch some of the artists in action as they give live demonstrations of the art-making process. While perusing the wide selection of affordable contemporary and modern art, enjoy live music, refreshments, and delicious treats.

As part of the Milwaukee Avenue Arts Festival, A Few Favorite Things at New Wave Coffee opens on Thursday, July 30. Featuring N.A.I.L.S. members and Chicago-area artists, A Few Favorite Things takes a closer look at what inspires artists to create their works. Along with a colorful and eclectic selection of art, each piece will be accompanied by a short artist statement which describes what about the work is one of the artist's favorite things.

CALL FOR ARTISTS:
A Few Favorite Things at New Wave Coffee is open to all Chicago-area artists, but with preference to current N.A.I.L.S. members. The theme of this show is open to vast interpretation. The artwork submitted must display one of the artist's favorite things; favorite memory, place, subject matter, color, shape, etc.
